about

The “Flying ‘A’ Boys” is a reference to my grandpa, Ralph, and my dad, Jerry. Before and after WWII, they ran a Tydol Flying ‘A’ gas station located on Route 66 in Springfield, Mo. When I was about five years old, Grandpa would play Merle Travis albums for me when I stayed with him, which eventually led me to play like Travis. Dad got me into Chet Atkins, George Barnes, Jerry Reed, and many other guitarists. We spent hundreds of hours playing guitars, buying guitars, and listening to records. I’m indebted to them, and hope this song honors their memory.
