about

Written in 1947 by Merle Travis, Eddie Kirk, and Cliffie Stone. This is the only song on the album which Travis recorded. The lyrics of the song use lines from advertising slogans from the ’30s and ’40s. For example, the full title of the song is “So Round, So Firm, So Fully Packed,” which was the slogan for Lucky Strike cigarettes. A friend of mine worked with Grandpa and Ramona Jones, and asked Ramona if she knew the back story of the song. Her reply was that Travis’ inspiration for the song was western singer-actress, Dale Evans.
