about

Written in 1931 by Clarence Muse, Leon Rene, and Otis Rene. Another one of my favorite Louis Armstrong recordings, which became his theme song. My dad and I played this song a lot when I was a teenager, and the melody is a great vehicle for the Travis style. My arrangement, and recording, of the tune was influenced by Travis’ multitrack songs – particularly “Way Down Yonder in New Orleans.” So I’m playing not only the lead, but also the rhythm guitar on this track.
